Ways to Give

We very much appreciate donations of any size and try to make it easy for you.

Employer Matching Programs

Many employers will match the contribution of an employee or retiree to a non-profit organization such as The Banner School. Please check with the human resources office of your company to obtain a matching gift form and enclose this form with your gift to the school. You will receive credit for the amount of your donation plus the amount of the matching gift.

Memorials and Honors

Gifts can be directed in memory of or in honor of classmates, teachers, parents, or staff members. When such gifts are received, the Development Office notifies the family members of the deceased (in the case of memorial gifts) or the honoree (in the case of “in honor of” gifts). These gifts will be listed in a special category in the Annual Report on Giving.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

If you wish to make a gift of stock, real estate, life insurance, or charitable trusts, please contact Jamie Pratt, 301-695-9320, or via email at JPratt@bannerschool.org.

Planned Giving

Your gift to the Planned Giving Program is vital to the long-term financial well-being of The Banner School and will help ensure that the tradition of educational excellence continues for future generations. There is a broad range of planned giving options that you may consider in your charitable estate planning that will benefit the School and help provide financial security for you and your family. A planned gift, under the right circumstances, can result in tax savings, increase current income for you or others in your family, and transfer assets to your family members with reduced tax costs.

Ways to Make a Planned Gift

Charitable Bequest

A bequest, which is the most frequently used vehicle for planned giving, is a provision in your will to transfer property such as cash, stock, bonds or mutual fund shares, real estate or tangible property to The Banner School. Bequests can also be made from retirement accounts, IRAs or other accounts. You retain your assets during your lifetime and your gift is passed to the School when your estate is settled. Your bequest may be for a specific amount of money, a particular asset, a fixed percentage of your estate or a residual portion of your estate.

Gift of Retirement Assets

You may name The Banner School as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401K, 403B or other qualified plan. You may designate Banner to receive all or a portion of your plan.

Life Insurance

You may name The Banner School as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy that you own and gift the policy to the School. You can continue to pay the premiums, or give a cash gift each year to the School for the amount of the premium. You will receive an income tax deduction for the cash value of the policy plus any premiums that you continue to pay. The School will receive the future proceeds from the policy.

Charitable Gift Annuity

A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a gift to The Banner School and still receive an income for yourself and others. It is a contract under which Banner agrees to pay a stream of fixed payments to you (or to you and your spouse) for your lifetime(s), in return for the transfer of cash or other property to Banner.

Charitable Remainder Trust

A charitable remainder trust permits you to irrevocably transfer assets, such as securities or real estate, to a trust. You and/or other beneficiaries whom you name will receive income from the trust for life or for a term of years, at which time the “remainder” goes to a charitable beneficiary, in this case The Banner School.

Charitable Lead Trust

A charitable lead trust allows you to specify a gift that will be paid annually to The Banner School for a period of years. After that period, the principal reverts back to you or to a non-charitable beneficiary, often family members.

The Triangle Society

The Triangle Society honors individuals who have included The Banner School in their financial or estate plans. By including Banner in your will, naming Banner as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan, establishing a Charitable Remainder Trust, Charitable Lead Trust or Charitable Gift Annuity or making a gift of real estate, you are contributing to the financial strength of the School. Your gift can have a lasting impact on the future of The Banner School and its students.

There are no fees or obligations associated with membership in The Triangle Society. The Society is established to thank you for your gift and to recognize your generosity, which may inspire others to follow your example. As a member of The Triangle Society, you will be acknowledged annually in the Report on Giving (unless you request otherwise) and receive invitations to special events.

Please contact your financial, tax or legal adviser, who will be able to address your particular circumstances and recommend estate planning actions, including the preparation of necessary documents, such as wills and/or testamentary trusts.

If you think that you would like to consider including The Banner School in your estate plans, and/or you have questions related to finding the best approach to accomplishing this goal, please contact the School at 301-695-9320. We are here to help, as needed, and would welcome the opportunity to personally thank you for your commitment to the future of The Banner School.
