Here at The Banner School, we believe that early childhood is the time to begin instilling a lifelong love of learning. What a great place at which to begin life’s educational journey - a nurturing, child-centered school atmosphere where your child will develop and grow up with a community of excited learners. Our Early Childhood Center has two new, spacious preschool classrooms to accommodate our three- and four-year-olds.
Our Preschool is a 12-month, daylong program with the following attendance options:
Three-year-olds: M-F, 8:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
M-F, 8:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
Four-year-olds: M-F, 8:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, full-time tuition includes morning childcare (7:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.) and afterschool care until 6:00 p.m.
Note: The preschool follows Banner's calendar and is closed for all holidays, teacher work days, vacations and snow days.
Preschool Curriculum
Our Preschoolers make new friends, investigate, discover, interact, and create. Their day is filled with learning by playing: singing songs, moving to music, role modeling, creating artwork, and using all of their senses to learn about the world. On the School’s seven- acre campus with their own playground, they have ample space to enjoy the fresh air as well as learn about the wonders of nature on guided walks.
Our Preschool curriculum is developmentally appropriate to provide the optimum foundation for the academic learning that begins in Kindergarten. Built on a thematic approach, topics include literature, health, science, animals, and the community. Each week the preschoolers even participate in physical education, Spanish, and music classes.
Preschoolers and Kindergartners occupy the Early Childhood Center building. Here they acquire the readiness skills for Primary School and beyond. For the Preschool Threes, the program in language arts includes both receptive and expressive skills. In math they classify, sort, measure, compare, recognize patterns, and begin one-to-one correspondence counting. The development of small and large motor coordination is enhanced through a variety of activities daily.
As a child moves to the Preschool Fours, emphasis is on pre-reading skills such as rhyming, auditory discrimination, phonemic awareness, and beginning letter formation and writing. Readiness mathematics instruction focuses on sorting and grouping, recognizing numbers to 20, geometric shapes, measurement, and problem solving.
Our philosophy – The Banner School Learning Triangle – Parent, Teacher, and Child – begins with the Preschool experience.
