Middle School
Grades 5-8. Classroom day 8:45 a.m. - 3:25 p.m.
In the middle school, students in grades 5-8 are being prepared for the high academic standards and hard work necessary to be successful in high school and college. Emphasis is placed on giving students a strong base knowledge, building research and study skills, fostering the ability to work independently and developing problem solving strategies. Trimester exams for 7th and 8th graders teach our students to prepare, prioritize, manage time and use a variety of study strategies to achieve success. An advisory program in the middle school ensures that each student’s academic and social needs are met. This provides students with guidance and direction and offers the opportunity for one-on-one communication.
Beyond academics, students have the opportunity to participate in activities that contribute to the development of sportsmanship, leadership, communication and cooperation. These include musical and drama productions, school band, chorus, and clubs such as yearbook, computer, reading, basketball, football and more. In addition, all middle school students have the option of participating in our sports program. Banner is a member of the Maryland Junior Athletic Conference, which is comprised of other independent and Christian schools from throughout the region. Sports offered at the JV and varsity level include volleyball, soccer, basketball, and track and field. Our Boys’ Soccer Team are the proud champions in the Maryland Junior Athletic Conference for 2003.
