Overview

Banner offers a strong liberal arts program composed of language arts, math, science and social studies. Classes in art, music, Spanish, French, computers, and physical education are essential components of the curriculum at every grade level. The curriculum is interdisciplinary, with experiences designed to stimulate and reinforce learning. Learning is enriched through group projects, field trips, guest speakers, and community service projects.

Each year, there is an immersion topic. Students in all grades study and explore a period of history or a special topic of current interest. This is complemented with corresponding activities in math, computer, language arts, music, and art. Our science program follows a thematic approach involving the physical sciences, biology, and earth sciences. All students in grades 3 through 8 participate in our science fair, held annually in February, and many go on to participate at the County level.

Foreign languages are introduced in kindergarten. Our students enthusiastically approach the opportunity to learn new languages, which are taught in a creative and fun manner. Both Spanish and French are currently offered and are taught by 'native speakers' in grades K-8 for French and K-4 for Spanish.  We have an additional 5-8 Spanish teacher who although is not a 'native speaker', is excellent and well respected. Computer classes are skill-based and are taught in an internet-accessible lab that is equipped with one computer per student. Students are exposed to a variety of software programs and are taught proper research and reporting skills.

Art and drama/music classes expose our students to the performing arts and provide them with many opportunities to express their creativity through performance and studio experiences.

Beyond our dynamic academic program, Banner students also participate in a number of extracurricular activities at the school.

Extended Care is also available for students in all grades, with Before and After Care offered daily.
