Welcome from Head of School
I would like to extend a warm welcome to The Banner School, Frederick County’s only non-sectarian independent day school, serving students in preschool (ages 3 and 4) through eighth grade. We have an extraordinary educational program and a wealth of opportunities both during and after regular school hours for every student and every student’s family. The Banner School is a special and caring place, where every child is known by every adult on campus. Here your child(ren) will find a safe and supportive environment both physically and emotionally, and intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and individual creativity are developed and prized.
As Frederick County’s only non-religiously affiliated independent school, The Banner School takes pride in its diverse community. Here we do not merely represent and respect diversity; we genuinely embrace and celebrate it. In classrooms throughout the grades we discuss world religions and learn about the religious practices and holidays of members of our community. Spanish instruction begins in preschool and the study of Spanish-speaking people is integrated into the curriculum. Lessons abound on geography, history, and the cultural richness of people both locally and around the globe. Here we welcome and want economic diversity in our student body so that children throughout this region have an opportunity to experience “The Banner School Difference.”
The Banner School is a college-preparatory primary and middle school. All students receive an education to prepare them for success in high school and beyond; our intent is to equip each student with the skills, knowledge, values, competence, and confidence to become responsible and active citizens in our increasingly high-tech and global society. We are proud of our school, of our students and their families, and of our alumni.
Our school is now in its fourth decade in Frederick and since 1989 we have occupied a beautiful historic property in Frederick on North Market Street. In addition to being the stewards of this inviting campus with its three Colonial Revival buildings, we are also privileged to have facilities that include a state-of-the-art Middle School science lab, a newly renovated school library, spacious and functional art and music rooms, and inviting athletic fields. Indeed, we provide superb facilities for student learning and engagement, testament to Banner's commitment to offering the area's foremost educational program.
We hope you will consider us for admission, but whether you are an old friend of the school or a newcomer to the community of Frederick, please come visit us … and experience “The Banner School Difference” for yourself.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Gail A. Dobay
