History of the School
The Banner School was founded by Elinor Miller in Frederick, Maryland, in 1982, as an independent, non-sectarian alternative to public and parochial schools. Mrs. Miller's biography.
Our student body has grown from just 22 students to over 240 students in preschool through eighth grade. Banner is approved by the State of Maryland and is accredited by, and is a member of, the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS).
The Banner School follows the philosophy of The Learning Triangle, a belief that fosters open communication and cooperation among teachers, parents and students, and encourages all to work together to ensure success for each student. Parents are welcome on campus at any time and are encouraged to be a part of school life. They help shape the direction of their child’s education and that of the entire school.
Since 1982, parents have been drawn to Banner for its strong academics, small classes and the secure and nurturing environment it provides to students. We are confident that parents will continue to see the difference that Banner can make in their child’s life.
Our school's motto is "Probe and Shed Light."
